The skin beneath Doffy's eyes was puffy, red-rimmed to compliment the shining ruby of his irises. Red like skinned knees and split lips, red like the blood coursing through Vergo's veins at breakneck speed. Red like love, red like death.
Pale lashes beat like butterfly wings as the king acclimated to the bright sunlight, and he reached for the frame of Vergo's shades, drawing them down in kind.
Vergo knew his eyes to be an unremarkable shade of brown. Like dirt, like shit. Deep and dark like hard work and secrets. He felt uncomfortable about Doflamingo seeing them. He felt lesser-than. Ashamed. Valued, indispensable, enthralled. Unable to look away.
