Summary
It started with the noises. Not the usual groans and sighs of an old house settling, but a soft, skittering rustle from under the floorboards of the kitchen. I wrote it off as a possum or a particularly ambitious squirrel in the crawlspace. I meant to call an exterminator, but life, as it does, got in the way.
Then, the crosswords began to change.
One Tuesday, I was stuck on a seven-letter word for “celestial body.” _ _ _ _ _ _ _. I had ‘P-L-A-N-E-T’ but it didn't fit. Annoyed, I gave up and tossed the paper.
The next morning, retrieving a crumpled bill I’d accidentally thrown away, I saw it. The paper was on top of the bin. Someone had filled in the empty squares. In a faint, silvery ink that seemed to shimmer under the fluorescent kitchen light, was the word: “QUASAR.”

Summary
25-year-old Grace Avery is a stunning woman working as a detective/investigator. Due to her looks, she often gets sexist remarks from her colleagues, seen only as an object of praise and beauty rather than a fellow detective. Annoyed and frustrated, she goes to an old friend for help and assistance, asking for a partner who doesn't care about her looks and has the brains to work with her, to which she learns that there is a person who could help her, the problem lays in the fact that, that person is the very same man who Grace knew and hated in high school, Basil M. House. Will Grace continue to hate his guts? Is Basil the same man whom Grace knew in High school? And will their relationship change?
This is a reimagining of Sherlock Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Besides being a reimagining, it's also a composite of different mystery stories and movies that I loved, so don't be surprised if some of the cases or puzzles look familiar. Dottore had a good feeling about his particular test subject. She was smart enough on her feet, and resilient too.At Black Mesa, a crystal of unknown origins triggers a "resonance cascade", tearing a hole through the space dividing the two worlds. Black Mesa so chivalrously dumps this crystal- and whatever comes out of it- on GLaDOS to deal with. Dottore is just as curious as she is- willing to put his former plans on pause, even.
If the tags scare you, don't worry, Dottore ends up with no one. :-)
