It's covered in mud and grime, tail thrashing and electricity sparking angrily at its cheeks. For such a small and adorable pokemon, something in the way it glares at the camera sings with intelligence and determination.

Pikachu tries to form the syllables of Team Rocket with his mouth again, and all that comes out is his language, but Pikapi acknowledges him all the same. “You’re talkin’ about Team Rocket, buddy?” He prompts, and Pikachu is surprised that his human could understand what he meant.
Yes, Pikachu tries to say, and his human’s eyes tighten at the sides. His heartbeat speeds up a little, but it’s not like the anger/fear/happiness that usually prompts it. It’s more like…his human’s shoulders slump further, and Pikachu is sure this is loss.
Or: Ash journeys. Pikachu watches, and learns.
