Summary
He reads the letter—then, shocked, he reads it again. By decree of his imperial father, so it says, Maia is to be given into the care of his grandfather the Barizheise Great Avar, upon the latter's request. Arrangements have been made: there is to be an airship that will take them both to the city of Cairado, where a ship sent by the Great Avar will be waiting to take His Grace the Archduke to Barizhan by way of the river Istandaärtha. Setheris is to return to Edonomee alone. They are leaving in three weeks' time.

Summary
On the Role of an Emperor is a book written by Edrehasivar VII Zhas (personal name Maia Drazhar) around the late 1230s AEC, though it wasn't published until after he died in 1239. It is partially a treatise on what defines a "good" emperor, and partially an autobiography discussing the process behind many important policy decisions as well as choice moments from his personal life.

Summary
There were only a few things Idra knew about the Great Avar. He was, of course, related to Idra through his father's line; a younger brother of Nemolis Drazhar, born to the scorned, unfortunate Chenelo Zhasan. That was the source of his claim to the Barizheise throne: he was the grandson of the previous Great Avar, Maru Sevrasched. He knew that his half-uncle took as his standard a prancing lion known as the Corat' Anmeir, Cruelty of the Sun, in partial tribute to his grandfather's Corat' Arhos.
It also might have been a nod to his Drazhadeise blood, which would have been bold if that was truly the intention, given that he had been disowned at fourteen.
(Or: In the fifth year of the reign of the Emperor Edrenechibel IX, the Great Avar Maia Sevraseched came to the Ethuveraz for a state visit.)

Summary
Tannis hums. Absently, she tucks an errant strand of hair behind his ear. His hair is looser than it was when she braided it for him this evening, though the braid is still intact. Interrupted sleep will do that. "What story do you want?"
Orava considers this, as seriously as he considers everything else. This is one of the things she's always been fondest of. "Tell me about Witch-Queen Ranni and the Blue Moon Lord."
or: Five hundred years after the beginning of the Age of the Stars, a mother tells her son a story.

Summary
A little ways into the fight, Radahn-who-is-not-Radahn collapses to his knees. Ranni wonders if it can truly be over; before his death, he would never have fallen so easily. Perhaps undeath has weakened him. There is no precedent for this, so anything is possible. But then—
Soft, bright, white-gold light. A soft, familiar voice.
“Lord brother… at last, you have returned.”
And Ranni finally grasps the shape of things.
or: Ranni learns what's become of her brother Radahn. She is... less than pleased.

Summary
A man who parried the strike of a god. How could he not have heard the name Kaedehara Kazuha? More important, though, is the fact that he apparently lost a treasured friend to the Musou no Hitotachi. To the blade of Kuni’s mother.
If he means to continue talking with this Kazuha, this may be a problem.
In which the isolated Prince of Inazuma meets a wandering swordsman, learns to want outside what he’s been given, repairs his relationship with his mother, and is given his rightful authority.

They’re nearly at the counter now, close enough that Katheryne can see Al-Haitham arch a brow. “If we’re talking about affronts to the eyes, should I bring up that blanket you bought a couple weeks ago? The one currently on the living room couch?”
Kaveh opens his mouth to reply, and Katheryne chooses that moment to jump in. Albeit politely. By design, everything she does is polite. “Ad astra abyssosque, and welcome to The Adventurer’s Guild. May I take your order?”
Or: Katheryne has some rather unusual customers this morning.

Summary
Marya’s friend Dmitri has made no secret of his casual attitude towards the gods. From half-assing his offerings to sleeping in during festival days to irreverently tossing about their names without title as exclamations, his little blasphemies know no bounds. But he’s never gone far enough to draw the eyes of the gods.
But when he insults the Ninth Harbinger, she finds herself worrying that this may be the single, fatal exception. And, as it turns out, she is more right than she could have ever known. They do say, after all, that it’s madness to malign the gods…

Who else can she follow, after all? What else can she do? How could she go back to burning monsters, burning herself away, when there are those who caused the monsters to appear, who so deserve the inferno of her fury?
Rosalyne would have walked hand in hand with Rostam through the gates of Hell. But he’s gone, and now she walks alone. Those she protects revile her; call her a witch. The Tsaritsa, Rosalyne thinks, would not do such a thing.

Or: the recruitment of Rosalyne Kruzchka-Lohefalter, soon to be known as La Signora.
