“You have freckles,” he said with delight.
“I have a CPA,” Shane Hollander said without looking up. He reached into his plain black briefcase and retrieved a plain black glasses case, from which he pulled a plain black pair of glasses and put them on.
Ilya palmed his phone and typed without looking. Do you think it’s too soon to propose marriage?
The answer came almost immediately. To your boring tax man? Ilyusha, if you owe the government that much, just flee the country.
Or: a butterfly flaps its wings, and Shane Hollander shows up at Ilya Rozanov's door to do his taxes.

Jungkook obediently handed over a small stack of cocktail napkins.
"Just once he could use Google Docs or, I don't know, a Post-It note or something," Jeongyeon said, shoving them in her pocket. "We're not in a heist movie."
"We're kind of in a heist movie," Jungkook said.
"Trust me, we're in a romcom, and I'm the spunky best friend."
"That's what the leading lady in a romcom would say, though," Jungkook said.

Ilya had expected Shane, as creator of the multi-year plan to get the two of them in the same place, to have had even more plans for the day his move to Ottawa actually happened. Color coded boxes. Room layouts. Maybe a cute little clipboard.

Summary
In which Shane's relationship with Rose unfolds the way it does on screen, but Ilya's father dies right before All-Star Weekend 2017. They have yet to reconnect, but Shane wants to find a way for them. He decides to come out to his team, starting with management, that spring. The Montreal Metros make it clear that they will not be the league's trailblazer for queer players and terminate his contract. The Admirals lose in game seven.
In June, Shane goes to Wimbledon with his parents. Instead of a Swedish princess, he meets the CEO of the Swedish Hockey League and makes the decision to leave North America. As a veteran playing for the Växjö Lakers, Shane becomes a mentor to guys trying to go pro in North America. Guys like his linemate, Derek Briggs.
Years later, Briggs makes the Ottawa Centaurs out of camp. The Centaurs' plane makes an emergency landing, Ilya still sends Shane those messages, but Shane doesn't answer.
(Or so Ilya thinks.)

What If Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov Had the Same Accountant? by ReinaSully
Fandoms: Heated Rivalry (TV)

Summary
During yet another Heated Rivalry reheat, one innocent question sent my brain somewhere it absolutely didn't need to go: What did Ilya tell his accountant that trip to Shane's cottage was for?
Which became: What if Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov secretly had the same accountant during all those years when absolutely nobody was supposed to know what was going on between them?
Their receipts frequently disagree with their story and even more frequently drive their accountant insane.
So naturally, I invented their increasingly exhausted accountant and when shit got too real for this man, he got on Reddit and did an AMA. These are the results.Bookmarked by celli
