Summary
Chi Cheng wasn't looking at the work.
He was staring at Da Bao.
He watched, completely mesmerized, as Wu Qi Qiong talked, his voice animated, his shyness forgotten in his enthusiasm. He saw the passion in his eyes, the way his whole face transformed when he smiled that wide, uninhibited smile. The light from the single desk lamp caught the curve of his cheek and the bright, unguarded joy in his eyes. Chi Cheng felt a sudden, sharp pang in his chest, a feeling so intense it almost took his breath away.
This. This was the feeling he couldn’t name, couldn’t categorize. This overwhelming urge to just… watch him. To see him happy. To keep that bright, unguarded light in his eyes. The chaos, the confusion, the internal battle—it all seemed to coalesce in that single, blinding moment of clarity.
The feeling wasn't just want. It wasn't just care. It wasn't just necessary. It was something deeper, something terrifyingly profound, a silent, powerful confession that went beyond simple ownership. It was a compulsion to devote his entire self to the preservation of Da Bao’s joy.
He was falling.
Hard.

"To spice things up", Wang Zhen insists.
For Wu Suowei, it's like a betrayal. It feels like he is drowning.
BUT because of course there is a but
When he meets Chi Cheng - older, magnetic and charming, Wu Suowei feels safe and warm in a way he hasn't felt in a long time. Meeting Chi Cheng feels like coming up for air.
Maybe, just maybe this was what was supposed to happen all along.

Summary
The guilt of lying to Chi Cheng about his initial intentions with him eats away at the very fabric that makes up Wu Suo Wei. Everything comes crashing down when Chi Cheng finds all his revenge plan materials, and Suowei realizes it's time to face the music. The two ultimately break up, but a call regarding Suowei's mother and a conversation with Cheng Yu changes everything.
(Canon compliant with a little divergence. This fic is canon-compliant to the drama, but I add in a couple of storylines from the novel that they weren't able to include in any episodes.)
I felt very inspired by the song 어제의 너 오늘의 나 by D.O. (English title: About Time) and decided it fit well with this particular part of their story. Yes, I cried while writing it. Like a lot.
