Summary
Parker used to tell herself bedtime stories.
Because no one else did, and because the picture books she came across always seemed to paint the dragons as the bad guys. So she made her own, stories where the rules made more sense to her and the characters were more interesting and the dragons were bigger and cooler and winners and always got a happy ending.
Parker falls in love three times.

Summary
Eliot knows it’s gonna be bad from the moment he hears the knock on his window.
Because of the limited number of people who can get to his window eight stories up, the only person who would knock is also the only one who never has to. And that spells more trouble than he’s prepared for two beers and three quarters into a hockey game. Sure enough in the dark, there’s Parker’s shock of blonde hair, her pale face fuzzy through the glass, the light pink leotard she’s been wearing for this dance studio job they’ve been doing and the splattered stain of blood across the front of it.

The pattern of Parker’s snores and how without fail he wakes up with her hair in his mouth no matter how they’re configured, like she can’t help but poke him even in her sleep.
It’s a good month. A really good month.
And then there’s a refugee crisis in Azerbaijan.

“I dunno, babe,” he says helplessly, tugging Parker in a little closer to fight off the strange shapeless fear of her slipping away too. “Just be here for him, I guess. Same as we always do.”
Parker makes a grumpy sound, but wraps her arms tightly around his waist.
“I don’t think that’s enough anymore.”

Sometimes he wakes up in the middle of the night and wonders if this is the rest of his life. He doesn’t use the word purpose, because everything feels so much less than that. But as the years start to add up, he resigns himself to the emptiness of it all.
There’s no reason for him to take the Dubenich job.
He says yes anyway. Like he was drawn to it, a little bit of destiny and a little bit of a higher power and a little bit of pure dumb luck.

This is how Parker knows she’s in love: because any other time she’s ever wanted something, she’s just taken it, but she doesn’t want to take Hardison, hoard him for herself when she doesn’t know how to love him right. She wants him to be happy. She wants to be what he deserves but if she can’t be, since she can’t be, she’ll… she’ll have to make sure he’s happy anyway.

It's his reflection. Lan Wangji can look at it for as long as he wants. It's just boring to do so. Who really likes staring at their reflection, anyway? It's normal to finish your mirror-related tasks as quickly as possible and then move on.
Lan Wangji attempts to move on, and the itch under his skin climbs all the way up into his skull to attack his brain. He watches his reflection as his posture shifts, his shoulders softening and curling in slightly, one of his hips cocking to add a curve to his spine. He lets his hand settle lightly on his hip, drawing more attention to the curve, and twists his torso so there's more of a contrast between the indent of his waist and the sway of his hip, tipping his head so his hair drapes further down over his shoulder. He meets his own eyes and for just an instant he sees someone else, someone softer, someone prettier—
Heart hammering, Lan Wangji rips himself away from the mirror and towels off his hair with shaking hands.
