“It just… gets harder this time of year. I’ll be fine.” He said. When it was clear Aventurine would not say more, Sunday shifted his hands to hold Aventurine’s face, tracing over his cheek with one thumb.
“Tell me more.” He said.
“It’s-” Aventurine began to say, and then his eyes met Sunday’s. His expression broke a little, and he tried to turn away. Sunday didn’t let him, though he didn’t force him to stay either. A gentle pressure, urging, asking him to stay, and Aventurine acquiesced. “My birthday’s… tomorrow.” He said.
On Aventurine's birthday, old memories press down upon him, leaving him grieving and exhausted. Sunday takes it upon himself to take care of him, refusing to let him spend the day alone. A week later, Aventurine easily returns the favor.
