His torturous experience lost to time has given him, if nothing else, years to reflect.
By believing their Lord to be dead, leaving him to rot endlessly as a shadow of his former self; the followers he'd painstakingly gathered were, all of them, lacking. In fealty and competency, both. These were not the embers with which he could reignite his life's work, he now knows, and the only option he sees ahead is to start anew with a different approach entirely.
For what could be more useful than fear in his aim to raise the Wizarding World to its true glory, if not adoration?

Harry's spent his summer going endlessly from nightmare to nightmare— so 'waking up' gushing blood with Voldemort's massive snake hissing at him is practically his regular Tuesday.
...just, that snake insisting he's its 'Mummy', and the Malfoys being piss-their-pants scared of him? That's a bit more unusual.
Not that he's complaining, exactly. It's just a fucking weird nightmare.

very nice writing and very in character, for the most part. the climactic scene didnt go exactly how i expected, but looking back, the story fit the summary to a T. a good read!
