Summary
Screaming matches that rattled the picture frames lining the living room walls. The sound of Javi’s whimpers, poorly muffled by his favorite wolf plushie. Embarrassment that crashed over him in waves as he watched his dad verbally berate the girls for some tiny mistake. This was the legacy his father had left behind.
He turns to Javi then, and the current state of his brother truly hits him. Javi’s eyes are red and puffy from crying, his bottom lip raw from where he bit into it to stifle his sobs. He’s still shaking, and Travis knows any good big brother would’ve taken him into his arms, but the contact might be what finally breaks him.
His brain fills with, I’m sorry for everything, you deserved a happier childhood, I don’t want you to become a flat, emotionless piece of shit like me.
Instead, he says, “He didn’t even like us. He was never nice to you. It’s not worth getting so upset about.”
Or, Travis and Javi pick up the pieces in the aftermath of their dad’s death.

Summary
Inside, a thick stack of letters sat, with a layer of dust encasing the pages, as if they had been abandoned for a while now. The papers were stacked neatly, not one out of line, and it seemed that their author had organized them diligently, rereading their handiwork and stacking the papers again and again, striving for perfection. Mortified to stumble across something so intimate, Will scrambled to replace the lid, but found himself paralyzed, suddenly, upon reading the heading of the letter on the very top of the pile: “Dear Will.”
While searching for medical supplies in the Wheeler family basement, Will stumbles across something he was never supposed to find.

Summary
It was one thing for Jonathan to know what was wrong with him. His older brother was no stranger to the violent deviance that characterized much of his life; they had buried a body together just last week. But this wasn’t something that could be blamed on his exposure to the supernatural, not like retching up slugs and bile, choking on the memories of his time spent in a cold, dark Hell, or expelling the monstrous entity nesting deep within his chest, although at times they felt one in the same. This was his own perversion, horrid thoughts he wasn’t brave enough to force down.
“I can’t even think it,” Will said.
While moving into the Wheeler family home, Will catches Jonathan during an off moment. There is something he needs to finally say out loud.

Summary
“How long have you even known?”
Jonathan’s mouth opened, closed, then opened again. “Known?”
Will’s sigh was sharp, frustrated. “You know what I’m talking about, Jonathan.”
Jonathan’s brows raised slightly. He wasn’t falling for Will’s games, and Will wasn’t falling for his.
And now they were really gonna talk about it.
“…Okay. Fair enough.” Jonathan exhaled. “You’re right. I might have an idea.”
Will’s attention snapped to him, surprised at the quick admission.
Jonathan lightly brushed Will’s watch that he knew matched Mike’s. “But I want you to say it, in case I’m wrong.”

Summary
There’s something wrong with Will.
It started three weeks ago, almost four. Will had woken from some sort of nightmare and, instead of seeking comfort in Mike the way he usually would, he’d rolled out a sleeping bag from the closet and chosen to sleep on the floor.
No one believes Mike, except for Joyce. But even she doesn’t understand the full extent to which something is wrong with Will.
Mike understands, though. Mike has been paying attention.

Summary
This was a stupid idea. It had always been a stupid idea, from the moment that Hinata had proposed it at one of the interminable team sleepovers back in Miyagi, to the moment that Kei had signed the lease. It was a stupid idea now, as Kei moved himself into the apartment he was soon to be sharing with two of the most irritating people on the planet, his boyfriend, and Yachi, who was actually an angel and didn’t deserve any of this.
But—and this was the sticking point—Kei was brutally aware of the fact that he had no-one but himself to blame for his current situation. He’d gone along with the whole thing with only mild complaining.
(Or: Tsukishima Kei shares an apartment with his teammates from Karasuno as a freshman in college. He doesn’t hate it.)
