Lan Zhan’s new liaison at the Caiyi Municipal Cultivation Department is an enigma – ridiculously talented, yet somehow content with mopping up spiritual pests for barely above minimum wage. I don't even go here
But almost every time I read a good quality fic in another fandom, it turns out the author either writes or bookmarks stuff for this show/book. I've been desperate need of good fic at 3am enough times to click on some and try to read without prior knowledge of canon. So now I vaguely know the story and characters. (It's like starting on book 3 of a trilogy because that's the only one you can find at the used bookstore--something i did a LOT as a kid, and it was always fun if I could find books 1&2 later, because then I could reread book 3 and it was almost like reading a new book.) Subtitles are hard because I usually watch stuff in the background while working, so i still haven't seen this even though it has been like 5 years. I should really try and find the books.
ANYWAY, this particular fic is the only one that made it into my bookmarks because it's just that good. Really want to come back to it once I've watched the show. -

“Okay, Jisung. I’ll help you out, because the sooner you realize the better,” Minho frowns, pouring water over his newly mixed teabag. Steam wafts up in a blooming cloud, interrupting his clear view of Jisung.
“Excuse me?”
“They’re trying to set us up,” Minho tips his chin in the direction of the matchmakers, all of them tittering and avoiding their eyes to huddle together when Jisung turns around. “They think they have some sort of gift. They’ve been on my ass for years. You’re new, and they lured you in, and now they’re sending you over here to get lemon balm tea because it’s supposed to make you lucky in love. It’s as good as cupid’s arrow around here.”
“Oh,” Jisung’s throat bobs when he swallows. His cheeks grow even pinker. “I’m not looking for a relationship.”
Minho snorts, rolling his eyes before he can think better of it. “That makes two of us.” He sets the freshly brewed cup on top of a saucer, slides it on the top of the bar and into Jisung’s hands.
