Tony Stark was as happy with his life as he'd ever been. He'd made peace with being his father's son, largely by proving to himself and to the world that he could do more than just fill his father's shoes. He was in a steady relationship with Pepper. And as an Avenger he'd found such close friends it was like a family. Only, not like his family, obviously.
And then Loki comes along and says he knew Maria Stark before Tony was born. Nine months before Tony was born, to be precise.

Summary
Ember would like it on record that they didn’t know. Halfas were so rare that no sane ghost ever expected to meet one. She wasn’t even sure how Halfas were even created.
When Ember overhears a conversation, she realizes there's been a halfa under her nose this entire time. And he has no idea that most of the ghosts attacking him are just trying to help his core grow.
