    Summary

    Superman looks down at the street silently, just like Eve had been. A passing group’s laughter is carried up to them with the wind.

    “Do you ever feel lonely?” Eve asks. “Like, there’s no one in the world who really cares that you exist?”

    Superman puts a steady hand on her knee. “I care that you exist, Eve.”

    Eve hums. It’s sweet, if empty. She’s pretty sure Superman is like, legally required to care that every single person exists. So it doesn’t really count. She doesn’t need to say that, though.

    ~~~
    After getting out of Lex's prison, Eve figures out how to build a life with people who care about her.
    Summary
    But now there’s no next time. Her last memory of John is doomed to be a brief one. She remembers the feel of his hand under hers, remembers how he’d rubbed his thumb over the back of her knuckles right before letting go. She wishes she hadn’t rushed off, oh so concerned with being late to something that never mattered, in the grand scheme of things.
    Carmy could hear her think over the phone. He couldn't stand it. "Tylenol?"
    "Yeah." He sounded stupid. God, he was so stupid. "M-Mikey said that if you took-took too m-m-much, it w-wou-would fuck up, uh, fuck up your liver and kill you."
    Carmy learns that Tylenol could kill him and he handles this information like a normal person.
    Summary
    Neil’s father owned a desk. It was a sturdy desk made of oak wood that had sat in the middle of his study for decades.
    One drawer of the desk contained a silver pistol wrapped in a towel. Another drawer contained stationary.
    Neil seals his fate with the drawer he opens. In this universe, it’s not the one you’re expecting.
