“There’s nothing wrong with holding his wrongs against him while wishing for him to heal. You can be hurt and angry at someone you love and still want things to get better for them.”
That much Morty knows to be true by himself. He’s rationalized it, he’s measured his fondness of Rick with his resentment of him, he’s done the necessary comparison in the privacy of his room. It hadn’t made him feel any better about the whole concept. The thought of hating Rick forever seemed greasy for more than a few reasons.
— • Morty and his poor attempts at untangling his relationship with Rick and emotions regarding it. (Once with the company of Dr. Wong, twice with the company of his own yawning endlessly guilt.)
Or: Morty does his best to process his unresolved, built-up traumas. His biggest issue isn’t necessarily the events of his “adventures”, but rather of how Rick’s treatment of him had drastically changed. Inspired by Reliable Narrator by Chase Petra.

Olivia’s sick. It’s a hassle of a thing to remember, of how long the Park family has gone by without sickness since the loss of his wife, but it brings ‘round something different from concern. Orville’s daughter doesn’t stagger in her small walks along the halls of her castle grounds, doesn’t necessarily weaken nor pale, however she seems sapped of energy. So much she doesn’t even pay attention to her toy.
Olivia’s a sickly, poor child. Orville isn’t ignoring how far and deep her sickness goes beyond her current feverish state.

Mark punched his dad in the face. His head actually jerked back at the force of it. “That’s your kid,” he snapped. “Your new family. Not mine.” Your little brother. Like hell it was.
His dad tensed, shoulders shifting, hands coiling into fists, and Mark hated the adrenaline fueled shot of terror that went through him at the sight of that. That if he hit him back, he’d be screwed. Left sucking blood and who knew what else until someone came along and scraped him up off the ground.

Rationally, Jayce is aware that Viktor provokes fights purely for his own enjoyment at least half the time. Not even someone as dead-set on being a bastard can realistically find enough reasons to start an argument as frequently as Viktor does. Rationally, Jayce is aware that he only gives Viktor what he wants when he responds to the provocation with anything other than pure indifference.
It’s real fucking difficult to stay indifferent when Viktor starts talking, though, and the urge to rip him apart is so physically overpowering, Jayce really has no other choice than to at least scream at him a little bit.
Or: Viktor pushes, and Jayce has no other choice than to push back, because his ego has always been fragile like that.
