A crooked smile ghosts across Dazai's face.
"I've done this once before."
He exhales. Kunkida looks miserable.
Then, beneath the gaze of everyone in the room, Dazai Osamu—the man who had pulled Atsushi from starvation, who had welcomed him into the Agency, who had become the first person Atsushi could truly call a friend—pledges himself to the Port Mafia once again.
Something inside Atsushi gives way.
He watches Dazai in shock.
Without ceremony, Dazai slips the sand-colored coat from his shoulders. It falls neatly into Fukuzawa's waiting hands, exchanged without either of them lingering on the moment.
Mori stares at him, there is something unsettling about the way he looks down at him.

Chuuya’s words echoed achingly in Dazai’s head, in his chest. The last time Dazai had been ‘discovered’ like that, called out on his incessant tomfoolery, he had tried to pull his unmasker as close as possible. It didn’t end well.
And then, there was that horrible moment where Chuuya had leaned in, stared into Dazai’s soul. Fuck, but Dazai had thought something very, very stupid. He’d looked at Chuuya’s eyes looking back at him, fixated on Chuuya’s sharp frown and thought, I could kiss him.
All these days he’d been thinking I hate Chuuya, Chuuya makes me miserable, Chuuya is the worst, never quite noticing that finally, for the first time…
He wanted something.
Wanted.
Want…
I want something?
The boy who can have nothing determined once again to have something; Tantalus forever reaching for food and water that he was cursed to repel for all eternity.
