Summary
Mara Sugden-Dingle is born on October 30th, 2019 to grandparents that have just welcomed their own little girl to the world, two aunts that are ready to dote on her, a brother that is about to be taken away from her, a father that is fractured by grief, and another who has been in prison for a week.
Or, Robert and Aaron get their surrogacy baby. Then Robert goes to prison, and Aaron is left to raise their daughter alone.

“You did the right thing,” Liam tells him later, pulled apart from Vic’s sobbing and John’s quiet placations. Aaron’s mum’s somewhere, getting them tea and hating the fact she’s having to make gentle noises about Robert of all people. “He needs more help than Vic’s able to give him.”
He needs me, Aaron thinks viciously and hates himself for it immediately.
He doesn’t. Robert needs doctors and therapy and medication. Needs someone to formally call it what it is so he can move forward with his life.
He doesn’t need an ex-husband who’s living the same day over and over again and never managing to actually do anythin’.

"And," Aaron says, smiling widely now, "we're already married."
"What?!" comes a shriek from the doorway, as Chas is wheeled in by an orderly. Her arm is in a sling, and she looks tired and pissed, and Aaron swears under his breath.
He takes in a breath like he's about to say something, when a doctor comes in behind Chas and reads off a tablet, "Alright then, Mr… Aaron Sugden? I just have a few last notes to go over with you-"
"What?!" this shriek is louder and Robert winces.

Summary
There are moments when Aaron will look at Robert and wonder how much of him actually came back from prison. Robert keeps a routine, strict and unyielding, nowadays. Aaron will blink awake to Robert slipping out of the bedroom door, he’ll come home from the scrapyard to catch Robert washing up his dishes and heading out again. They have vast fields and herds of cattle to tend to so it’s easy for Robert to get lost out there. Lost to Aaron, at least, looking out of the back-facing window to try and get a glimpse of his husband who always seems to be on his way out when Aaron enters.
after prison, and John, and Kev, Aaron and Robert should be happy and excited and ready to get on with the rest of their lives but things have never been made easy for them
