But life doesn't seem much better there. Everything appears more artificial than the "real community" they claim it is.
Laine keeps to herself and makes few select friends, including a young girl whom she grows close to—a child named Kendall, a sharp and extroverted girl who seems to be suspicious about the inner workings of the factory and the true motives of the adults who are always watching them.
Still, Laine ignores her warnings.
Eventually, she lands herself in the wrong place, at the wrong time, watching the wrong tape.
The horror which comes from that small mistake is inexplicable.

When she looked at him all she saw was her friend’s murderer—with something else buried in his eyes. Something broken. “I am no longer The Winter Soldier. I am James Bucky Barnes and you’re part of my efforts to make amends,” he stated blandly, then offered her a small, unamused smile.
”Don’t,” she hissed, tears threatening to spill over. “You murdered her.”
Barnes stared at her as if she had slapped him. As if he had heard those words hundreds of times before, but they still hurt nonetheless. She basked in that—bathed, even. The idea that she could hurt him, in any twisted or corrupted way, overjoyed her.

Murdoc Niccals needs to write an album. He also needs to run away from Satan's henchmen. What better way to do that than kidnapping people and creating a cyborg to record the album?
2D just so happens to fall in love with someone he kidnapped, too. A trauma bond? Maybe. But with all the time in the world at Point Nemo, he could figure that out.
I don't like using y/n, so I made an oc. Tried to make her a little original but also easy to project onto.

Bullied bastard meets Blue-haired Black-eyed God. Satanist chooses Pazuzu. Metaphysical bonds meet Trauma bonds meet Found Family bonds. Band meets fame. Fame turns out to be a Ponzi scheme of demonic bureaucracy that Murdoc is not prepared to deal with- Don't print that! It's under control!! The rest is music history... GLUG. Ah and the history of everything else as well... A romcom, really, all things considered.
The first 20 years of Gorillaz's major canonical beats condensed and connected into a coherent thematic and character-driven epic of mystery building and pay-off that will never gaslight you about how gay it is... and assumes Murdoc regularly makes shit up to cover up for even worse shit.
