Summary
Eddie’s life is easy.
He wakes up at seven o’clock every morning, gets ready for the day before eating breakfast with his wife, Myra, who he doesn’t love. Then, he leaves his house, wishing it would be the last time, and drives to his horrible job, where he spends most of his day thinking about where he’d go if he left, but then he always just drives home at five o’clock anyways. Myra makes them both dinner, and she usually goes to sit in bed to wait for him, but he hasn’t come up before she fell asleep in years.
He spends the last couple hours of the day alone, downstairs, in his living room. He listens to the radio, because an old friend of his has a radio show, and it’s nice to hear a familiar voice, even if he hasn’t seen the kid in years.

Dr. Tozier puts one hand just briefly on Richard’s dark mophead hair, like he’s giving the boy a blessing for his apple adventure. His hand is really quite broad, thinks Helen, popped out square at the thumb-joint.
Matches that jawline of his, something whispers darkly in her stomach. Then the boy’s off, tearing down the aisle on a squeaking chariot of scuffed-gray sneakers and babbling what sounds like a Bugs Bunny impression, repeated on a loop. What’s up doc what’s up doc what’s up doc, fading around the corner to the fruit. Peculiar. Helen once saw the Tozier boy eat a worm at the park while pushing her youngest on the swings, after another solemn-eyed little boy with a faceful of freckles had carefully presented it to him in the sandbox. Most peculiar.

Summary
The room is not big, but it's not small either. It doesn't look much like an office except for the crammed in desks and typewriters. The floor is wood, stained dark. Light streams in through a barely-open window, lending all of the brown a forgiving sheen of gold. The rain must have stopped.
Several of the desks are overfilled with knick-knacks and books, definitely not in a suitable state to work at. Behind one of these, a man sits with his feet on top of the table and its contents, ankles crossed. If Eddie had to make a guess he'd say he's around Eddie's own age. White, with dark hair. He's wearing glasses.
Bingo. This is his man.
