    Shane leaned into the touch, then hissed as the movement lit up his side. "My stomach really hurts. I think it's getting worse, Ilya."
    The pain made talking difficult — breathing, even. He curled forward, head dropping to Ilya's shoulder, arms wrapping tight around himself.
    "It's okay. Keep breathing. I'm calling your mom."
    Ilya carded his fingers through Shane's dark hair while he pulled up Yuna's contact. "Hey, Yuna. Shane's still not doing great — his stomach. No, I don't think it's a bug, he's in a lot of pain." He tipped the phone away from his ear. "Where is the pain, my love?"
    Shane shifted and gasped. "Right side. Near my hip. It's stabbing."
    Ilya relayed it, and something in Yuna's answer made his hand still mid-stroke through Shane's hair. Shane glanced up, curious, at the sudden quiet. Ilya kissed his head, worry poorly hidden, murmured something soft to Yuna, and thanked her before hanging up. He cupped Shane's face, turning it gently toward him.
    "Shane. Your mum thinks it might be your appendix. We need to go to the hospital, okay?"
