Yes, he was as big and broad shouldered as Buck had imagined him, with a handsome face that was dusted with a few days old stubble. His eyes were a deep blue that threatened to drown him the longer he looked.

The mermaid confesses it like he’s ashamed, his voice quiet in Buck’s brain, softer than it’s been so far.
“Not anymore?” He asks, because how could he not? He has so many questions, ones that he’s not sure he’ll even ever have the time to ask.
Eddie didn’t answer right away. He simply looked at Buck, eyes dark and unreadable behind the distorted glass. Then he raised one hand and pressed his fingers against the barrier between them, the tips of them ghosting over the surface like he was remembering how it felt to touch something real. He tapped once. Then again.
Tink, tink.
The sound was delicate, but it echoed like a bell in Buck’s head.

“Christopher.” Eddie whispers and looks back down at the likely dying wild animal his son brought home.
“Please?” Christopher’s eyes are wide and wet and looking at him with such hope.
What can Eddie do? Say no? Of course not. “I’ll try, but Mijo, it looks pretty hurt.”
“You can save him.” Christopher insists. “I know you can.”
