Zoe’s smile dropped slightly. She placed the ice pack gently on a corner of the desk where the condensation wouldn’t reach her paperwork, and stepped around with her hands raised like you were a spooked animal she’s approaching. “It wasn’t as bad as it sounded.”
“You have a black eye the size of Texas, sunshine. Don’t you dare downplay this.”
Her lips twitched like she was fighting from grinning. “What, doesn’t it make me look pretty badass? Kinda hot, right?”
Your eyes only narrowed further as you folded your arms across your chest.
