“I’m right here,” she says, sliding her fingers through his. “Will you tell me what happened?”
Fireplace shadows flicker over his bandaged face. Maybe he’ll refuse. Zelda remembers Epona’s hooves kicking up dust, his proud green tunic disappearing behind the crest of a hill. Maybe all hope for their future died that day—or maybe time and tragedy only helped it grow.
Link’s answer comes slowly, like drawing venom from a wound. “Well,” he murmurs, tightening his grip on her hand, “I got lost.”
The hero searches for something he’ll never regain, the princess becomes a queen, and fate gives them a second chance.

Already, it’s wrong. Waking up to an empty cabin, that is; or, more specifically, Kazuma’s absence. Ryunosuke has already gotten used to the steady sound of his breaths; the scratch of his pen on paper; the weight of Kazuma’s gaze on him; the tether of another person, as legs tie him to the ground.
It was all too easy—all too quick—all too natural. As though it hasn’t been a day, but that he’s already passed three months at sea, contained within these four walls. Within Kazuma, you could argue.
It’s not a terrible thing. Save for the ache—the ache—the ache.

Not that it matters much. Ryunosuke is free to do whatever he wants with whoever he wants. It’s none of Kazuma’s business. Doesn’t need to weigh so heavily in his mind that he can't string together a single thought that isn't about Ryunosuke’s mysterious date.
He imagines it—their conversation flowing, Ryunosuke laughing, rubbing the back of his neck the way he does when he gets embarrassed about being too loud. Maybe his date would reassure him, or laugh with him, or—something, and Ryunosuke would smile, shy, tiny, and—
Have fun, Kazuma didn't say. Thank God he didn't. Ryunosuke would've seen right through him.

“I mean, wot’s the worst that could ‘appen? Ya make a fool out o’ yerself on the telly?” Gina Lestrade asks, crossing her arms as she stares dead into the camera. There’s an edge to her gaze, like she expects the production team to confirm or deny. They don’t. A beat, then: “Nuffin’ much different than most your day-to-days, innit?”
