“hah, yeah,” hummer taps his free hand on his knee. “it’s not bad, it’s just. not good either? i just think your hands would be a bit softer. or at least less conductive,” he replied, “like rubber, maybe?”
wifies laughed at that. “i’ll do my best,” he reassured him, before placing a warm hand across hummer’s wrist, bracing him to the workbench.
“it’s not a big-” oh. a sort of odd heat pulsed its way up his arm to the base of his spine. he made a punched out, breathy sound and doubled over.
wifies stopped, eyes big and glassy. “did i hurt you?”
no, hummer wanted to say, head spinning, no, definitely didn’t hurt.

he doesn’t remember. not entirely. only hazy memories that return to him in his dreams, the golden spires of the castle, the sunlight through those misty leaves- and the ever-expansive darkness.
he knows he met with something that day- that night. wherever he was in the in-between.

Summary
Newt is forced to return to school after being out due to a leg injury, one that has changed his entire life. He starts to think that nothing will ever go back to the way it was after his attempt, until he gets an offer from the High School's coach, Vince, and Newt starts to think that maybe he has a chance. Well, if it weren't for the insufferable star player, Thomas Greene, who is determined to make Newt's life a living hell if he doesn't quit the team.
It does not go as expected ;)
OR: Thomas and Newt are rivals on the basketball team when Thomas realizes there's a lot more to life than winning a game. Now he has to learn to leave his old life behind in order to move forward.

He should have shut the whole operation down the moment he saw her share a smirk with El when they were still out at the diner, innocently eating shitty waffles and soggy fries. He should have never agreed to let everyone come back here, he should have never let Robin and Steve pawn them off a twelve-pack of disgusting Sam Adams, and he should have never, ever let Dustin put his empty bottle in the middle of the circle they were sat in, comfortably buzzed and basking in normalcy.
But Mike had let them.
Mike Wheeler finds heaven in a boy who’s been to hell and back.

Summary
Mike's life is split in three categories; the life he should have, the life he wants to have, and the life he has to have. Currently, he's living in limbo between all three; he'll never have that white-picket fence and suburban wife, not when the only girl he could try to love has left him, and while he's finding it harder to live the life he has to have— the life where he hides himself so deep, not even the people he loves know who he is— he'll never get the life he wants, either.
Limbo sucks, to put it simply. He's so close to what he wants (which is Will, no matter how hard he tries to shove it down) but he just can't push past that barrier and talk to Will, not when everything he does always feels wrong.
But, maybe, Mike might come to learn that what he wants isn’t so bad, after all.
(Or; Mike's struggle with his internalized homophobia— among other things, including the concept of free will, Robin Buckley's mildly terrifying presence, and wanting things Mike's sure he doesn't deserve— structured around the five stages of grief. You can mourn a life you'll never live, and you can mourn someone you haven't actually lost.)

Summary
The anniversary effect is very real; they’ve all felt it. Especially Will, as another shiver racks through him, stronger than the last. This time, Will takes a step closer to Mike and presses their shoulders together. Whether it’s for body heat or comfort, Mike doesn’t know, but he isn’t going to complain.
If he can’t protect Will from the horrible memories and sleepless nights, he can at least protect him from the autumn breeze. He quickly tugs off his leather jacket and holds it out for Will to take, who looks down at it in surprise.
“What?” he asks, glancing between it and Mike, like he doesn’t know what to do with it.
“You’re cold,” Mike states, no room for question. He knows that Will would lie about it if he could.

Mike and Will attempt to navigate Halloween together while struggling with the anniversary effect.
