Summary
Carlisle, who hasn’t tasted or craved human blood in his entire life as a vampire, meets Chief Swan and suddenly can’t take his eyes off him. He wants to watch him, observe every move, like a hunter stalking its prey. Surely, it’s just his blood.
Charlie, who has never found another man attractive before, meets Dr. Cullen and suddenly can’t take his eyes off him. He wants to see him, talk to him, learn his every thought. He’s never felt anything like this before. Surely, it’s nothing more.
Or: Carlisle blames the blood, Charlie blames literally anything else, and neither of them has a clue what’s actually happening.

Summary
“I am taking it easy,” Buck argues, unimpressed. “I’m literally in bed.”
“And I’m expecting you to stay there,” Eddie warns, pointing a cautionary finger.
“Only if you're joining me,” Buck bargains, impatiently patting the mattress next to him.
“I've heard that skin-to-skin contact is really good for the brain, makes it release all the feel good chemicals and regulates stress and stuff.”Eddie narrows his eyes, considering. “Sounds like an excuse to get me shirtless.”

Summary
“So let me get this straight,” Buck says, then pauses, smiling wider. “Actually, poor choice of words.”
“I hate you,” Eddie grumbles.
“No, you don’t.”
Eddie doesn’t. That’s the problem.
“So you think you might like guys,” Buck continues, leaning further into Eddie’s space. Eddie can see the muscles in his abdomen tighten as he moves and he’s looking. Again. He can’t stop looking. Somebody sedate him. “But you’re not sure. You’ve never, what, tried it?”
“I’ve been a little busy being heterosexual, Buck. It’s a full-time job. Doesn’t leave a lot of room for extracurriculars.”
Buck chuckles. “Okay, well.” His eyes meet Eddies, humor still there, but now surrounded by heat, too. Shit. “There’s really only one way to find out.”

Summary
“That thing measures heart rate, doesn’t it?” Eddie asked, raising his eyebrows in the direction of Buck’s wrist.
Buck looked down at his watch, his eyebrows furrowing. “Yeah, why?”
“So, let’s test it then,” Eddie smirked, taking a swig of his beer, placing it back on his coaster.
Test it? How many beers had Eddie drunk? Buck was pretty sure he only gave him one bottle.
Buck’s eyes widened. “Wha—”

Summary
There are men turning up dead in the woods, and Chief of Police Charlie Swan has a job to do—figure out what, or who, left the poor bastards torn up as they are. Chief of Police Charlie Swan is too old for this mess. Too old and too sick of this shit to pretend Forks is just a sleepy old rural town anymore. Between the gruesome corpses and the quiet, unsettling doctor Cullen who shows up like a statue in pressed slacks, lying through his teeth, Charlie’s got more questions than answers—and no one seems too keen on giving him either.
Charlie’s trying not to notice how his breath catches when the doc gets too close. He’s also trying not to notice how the bodies keep piling up, unsolved. Neither effort is going particularly well.
And if one more person tells him it was a bear, he’s going to shoot something. Probably not a bear.

Summary
And, here, looking at his best friend, he can see that something’s broken inside him, too. And, maybe it’s the therapy he’s had over the years, his sessions with Frank, but Eddie wants to talk to Buck. He wants Buck to talk to him. Buck, who just looks so fucking sad, still in his dress blues, one hand drinking the beer, the other coming up to loosen his tie.
This morning, Eddie had noticed Buck tying, untying, retying the tie with breaths of frustration, fingers shaking. “Eddie,” he’d said lowly from across the room, and Eddie wouldn’t have even heard him if he hadn’t been watching. “I, uh, can never – I can never get this right.”
