Summary
Hot and cold flared across his body when he woke up. There were many somethings attached to him. A rhythmic beeping from a machine somewhere to his right registered in his mind, but any other sounds were too muffled by the heavy pounding in his skull for him to distinguish anything else. Something was also covering his nose and mouth, though he assumed it was an oxygen mask.
He didn't know where he was; it took too much effort to blink his eyes open so he opted to listen, straining his ears against the blood rush and machinery.
"You're awake, number nine."

It has to be the eyes, Madara thinks, as he falls out of time again.
It is glaringly apparent to him that is what’s happening. He has died, but the eyes are pulling him back through time, snagging on events with seemingly little rhyme or reason for their significance. He spends mere seconds in most of his memories—barely enough for him to gather his bearings before spinning back out of control. At some point, he realizes that he no longer feels the scenes; he’s falling so quickly that all he gets are the snapshots stolen by his eyes.
