The boys don't have long until they have to head to college, so after acquiring a few days away from work, they head to Rose Hill, Tennessee. It's soft and full of silent promises.

When, five years later, everyone comes home, he has to deal with the fallout of the changes he made to survive.

Maverick looks at him for a long moment, and then backs off. "Okay. Sure," he says. "Can I at least get your name, since I gave you mine?"
He hesitates for a second, but well, it's not exactly like his name is unique. "It's Tom."
Maverick takes a pen out of his back pocket and starts scribbling something on the cardboard coaster under Tom's beer. "Well, Tom—that's my phone number, in case you change your mind."
I won't, he thinks, but he just smiles indulgently, and watches as this Maverick character walks away, probably off to find his next target. He does have a nice ass, though. He can't deny that.
