Summary
Once upon a time, Iruka was a child and a tragedy happened to him. In the aftermath, he found comfort in a webnovel called The King's Hound, which followed a boy named Hatake Kakashi and his tragic life, up to his death. Upon reading about his favorite character's death, Iruka was dissatisfied by the ending, wishing that he could have had a happy ending. Of course, Iruka then transmigrates into the world of The King's Hound into a minor character of the same name-- Uzumaki Kushina's ward, who died early on in the novel after trying to take Naruto away from Kakashi. He's given a limited system that isn't worth his spit which tells him to work hard, which Iruka takes to mean change the world.

Yet he was lonely for the first time since coming to this world. His mind wandered from study to the book once more, as it always did. Reading all of the materials that Kushina had given him was boring, as though he were rereading them, yet when she spoke aloud it was like new information. Was this some talent passing to him through the prior Iruka? He couldn’t discern how that might be happening. It wasn’t as though he were some omniscient reader who understood the world entirely from reading a book over so long a period. -

Summary
Kakashi is a spy slash agent slash modern ninja for the city-state of Konoha, which has had longstanding ties with the city state of Uzushio, as they were originally under the control of the same lord. In modern day, the two are still allied, but Kakashi exercises a normal amount of distrust toward the state and its agents. Umino Iruka seems to have very different ideas about what "ally" means.

He couldn’t help but twitch with jealousy when Iruka clapped Gai on the shoulder, laughing.--
Kakashi has cptsd and is certainly living with it. Iruka is walking into this with his eyes open, even if Kakashi isn't.

I wrote this back in December of 2025/January of this year for a gift exchange but never "finished" it. I'm going to share it as is. Also, Flambae's real name is Zahir here because I saw that in a fic or three and liked it. The aquarium is based on one that I went to a lot as a kid when we visited my grandparents. Don't comment about where it is please.

Zahir is taking his boyfriend out for a date at the aquarium, because isn't that romantic? Surely Robert will appreciate that. And yes, he knew that his boyfriend was disabled, but he didn't know about the wheelchair. Is there a reason Robert didn't tell him about that? Doesn't he trust him?
