Summary
Orym turns around and thunks his head against the soup pot.
"That’s terrible," he says, hoping Will can’t see the grin that’s threatening to split his face in half.
"I'm not wrong," Will says, delight beaming through his voice as a board clatters down on the bench and two strong arms wrap around him from behind. "It’s us, babe!"
"No, no, absolutely not," says Orym, with as much affected disdain as he can manage when squeezed up against his husband, which is not very much at all. "I am not an onion—"
On a cool Yulisen evening in autumn, Orym gets home from work, Will has a semi-successful trip to the market, and together, they make soup.

Summary
It's been three weeks since the protective charms surrounding Orym were dispelled, and the curse sank its barbs into him. Three weeks since those agonising hours as bone grew and joints coaslesced and new wings tore their way out of his back.
Three weeks since he turned overnight from a lithe and graceful soldier into an ordinary halfling with too-big wings, stumbling around as clumsily as any baby bird.

Summary
Twenty-five words. Orym closes his eyes and traces over the glyphs again, catching his thumbnail in the grooves, working his way around the pattern they make. Sometimes he plans messages for days, ensuring he can tell Dorian everything important. Every time, there are things he needs to leave out. Words he wishes desperately that he could say.
It's a quiet night. He presses his thumb over the large rune in the centre of the stone, and opens his eyes to see it glow, bright as the North Star. He breathes in, with intent.
Orym can't sleep for the weight in his chest; a weight made of words he hasn't dared to be selfish enough to say.

“The bread definitely knows if you don’t think it’s going to work,” Orym had said, taking a hold of the dough after Dorian asked him to check it and giving it another few firm kneads on the bench. “Just have some faith it’s going to turn out okay. And besides…”
He gave Dorian a wry grin. “Worst that can happen is it’s so bad, Pâté V gets to enjoy it instead.”
In which the air of Sugar Moon Bakery is as heady with magic as it is with butter and sugar and yeast, expectations weigh heavy on even the hardiest of shoulders, and Dorian Storm makes cinnamon rolls.

Summary
Leo’s known for the longest time that this cannot be forever. Guanghong is from far away and maybe a time Leo could never even fathom. It takes eight minutes for the Sun’s light to reach Earth, and for those far-off stars, even the closest ones to the solar system: aren’t they so far away that the twinkling pinpricks they make in the sky are those stars, but a thousand years ago? Guanghong could be from a hundred thousand years ago. And how far is that, when you put distance to it?
The stars call. Guanghong, in time, must go to answer.

Summary
Tonight’s dance is one from a lakeside county, set to an old tune known through the lands. Guanghong finds himself singing along when Leo sets his lute to strum the tune slowly behind them, and Leo laughs aloud before joining in. Even when he’s breaking the words to sing the dance steps, his voice is melodious, moreso than anyone else’s in Hasetsu, a rich, low tenor, and the sound of it stirs something in the air, like the sunset is spiralling its way into their dance.
And there’s always something that lifts within Guanghong when Leo starts making music, even when he’s not feeding his magic into it.

Or, rather, their first pair skate as husbands, because first dances are overrated anyway (according to Yuri).

“Don’t tell me you aren’t enjoying this.” Otabek catches both his hands under Leo’s shirt and makes him gasp, and Leo can feel his smile, spreading wide and unrestrained, rare and precious like the splinter of glimmering gemstones in sturdy rock. “Let me take care of you tonight.”
“You always take care of me, Beka.”
The night of the Worlds banquet, Leo has a sprained ankle, an overprotective boyfriend, no alcohol in his system, and a thing for Otabek's cufflinks that Otabek really, really wasn't supposed to know about.

“You crashed?”
“Not really,” says Otabek—which is a lie, so he corrects himself. “Sort of. The bike’s fine.”
“I wasn’t asking about the bike.”
Five near misses Otabek has on his bike, and one crash too close for comfort.

The months slip away, turn into years, and Konoha learns that what doesn’t show in Sarukui’s face always shows in his hands. Konoha thinks he could study them, do a presentation, write an essay:
There they are, wide and broad-knuckled and knotty in the heat. Do you see the blood, running through his veins, and the way it gets hot and goes raised and blue when he’s mad? Do you see his fingertips, bent out of shape with every point he wins for the team? Do you know the callouses of his palm, or the ridge of the blister where he holds his pen too hard?
Do you know these hands the way I do?

“You just got into the final too,” Leo retorts. “Don’t pretend like no one wants to talk to the hero of Kazakhstan, especially when you’re defending last year’s streak—”
“The sponsors have already heard everything from me,” Otabek says—and then he lets go of Leo’s hand, only to wrap that arm round Leo’s waist and pull him in close. “Let’s go back to your room. We can celebrate in private, can’t we?”

There’s something more to Bokuto, Konoha thinks. When he’s suspended in the air mid-spike for an infinitesimal second—when he’s laughing with his head tipped back just so—when he’s walking and gesturing and flings out his arms like he’s inviting in the entire world, waiting for something great because there is no doubt that he will be great—
Konoha sees it for the first time at summer training camp in their first year.
Dreams are funny things. What Konoha's learning is that to realize them, you have to open your eyes wider; spread your mind further—
and dream those dreams a little bigger.

Progress Report: Guanghong's Misadventures in Bowtie Tying, by Leo de la Iglesia
Attempt No. 17
Outcome: Guanghong lost his grip on the second fold, then on the whole thing when he panicked and shifted his occupied hand to try and fix it. Stumbled into the desk and knocked a teddy bear onto the floor. Thankfully, he did not poke me in the throat this time round.
Flush: spreading beyond the cheeks.
Cause: of the clumsiness?Still trying to determine whether it is, in fact, me.
(Or, Leo and Guanghong get ready for prom together.)
