Summary
“Nat! Go a little easy on her!” Clints voice booms across the gym.
Kate’s eyes blur, her body is burning, and she’s not quite sure if her ears have always been ringing, or if the ringing just began.
She grunts, and just barely dodging Natasha’s next jab, stumbling back as she regains her footing.
Kate's chest is burning with humiliation, determination, and exertion from the fight.
She blocks a nasty kick aimed at her head with the outside of her arm, grits her teeth and seizes the opening she's given, lunging forward with all her might.
Her fist doesn't even get close.
Natasha moves like the Widow she is, whips her leg around in a perfect arc, and strikes Kate straight on her temple.
Her eyes blur and she barely registers the pain before her world tilts.
Kate's out cold before she even hits the mat.

Kate thinks she’s getting bullied by Natasha Romonoff, but can’t possibly understand why. Maybe it has something to do with the way Yelena looks at her when she thinks nobodies watching?

To the side, past the trash barrels and crates, down the thin stretch between the bar and the dress shop beside it. Melissa followed the sound, her stomach coiling tighter with every step. The same voice in which she heard the wilderness laugh earlier, spoke out again, in a strong breeze she heard the warning, to leave, to just ditch Mari and go.
Melissa rounded the corner—and froze.
Mari was on the ground, pinned beneath a woman in a red flannel. Her arm was raised in a trembling defense, but the woman was biting into her wrist. Blood ran freely, shining in the early dawn light.

Melissa gets caught up in some vampire drama, it sucks, like a lot.

Summary
Kate stares at the mysterious scene transpiring on her desk.
A beaker filled with liquid is surrounded with odd objects and ingredients. There’s a faint pink glow to the liquid in the beaker, and it gives off an ominous aura.
Kate slowly and carefully places a blond strand of hair into the beaker and leans close as the liquid begins to bubble. She looks straight through the glass, confusion etched into her face. Then, Kate places her nose over the opening of the beaker and sniffs the bubbling liquid. Kate sniffs once. Then she sniffs again, and before her third sniff the mysterious liquid explodes.
OR
Kate is in love with Yelena.
Yelena doesn't love Kate back.
So, Kate figures something out.

Nat takes a chance to look around again, distracted by the thought of the missing Spider-woman in the space. Did she just up and leave while Nat’s suspended up here and, ugh, technically helpless?
Nothing looks remarkably red and blue from where she hangs, and Nat’s about to accept her fate now—dead at eighteen, Rutgers freshman, soccer playing time of zero—when she feels someone else’s touch wrap around her limbs, and thank God it’s not another slimy tentacle.
Nat starts seeing New Jersey's Spider-woman a little too many more times than she'd like.

Summary
There, face down on her bed, wrapped in her dark purple comforter and drooling on her memory foam pillow, is a person— a blonde haired person, in smudged lipstick and what looks like a leather jacket, from the tip of the collar Kate sees peeking out from under her blanket.
So Kate does the logical thing. She has a black belt in five different martial arts. She’s a state champion fencer, and a world champion archer. She takes one look at the potentially dangerous home intruder sleeping in her bed, and she does what any smart person would do. Duh.
She whispers, “Oh, what the fuck,” turns around, promptly collapses on the couch in the living room, and falls asleep.
OR: Kate is a grad student at NYU. All it takes is a blonde with a habit of breaking and entering to change everything.
