"IPA," Robby called again, a reminder.
"For that, I'm getting you a Bavarian wheat beer, you prissy fuck." But Jack bypassed the respectable Penn Pilsner and grabbed a pack of their hopped-to-shit IPA, hating himself a little for giving in...but it would make Robby smile.
The door banged open, spinning Jack around, senses instantly on alert as a guy rushed in, black bandana tied around his face, pistol pointing at Sal as he shouted. "Open the register! Now!"

Summary
At eight years old, Frank Langon was dealt a shit hand in life. Dead parents, six foster families in five years, and now cancer on top of it all...
-----
"Did you find a foster?”“No.” Casey glanced through the window into the room. Frank faced away from them, but they could see the gentle rise and fall of his chest. “No one will take him. He’s going to have to stay here for treatment.”
“Can I foster him?” It was out of his mouth before he even realized. Sure, he wanted to ask, but he didn’t want to sound too eager about it. Casey gave him a withering, suspicious glare and he found himself rambling. “I want to. He’s a sweet kid, and I’m a doctor! I’m prepared to take care of him. And I live with my sister who is in school to be a doctor, too. And we have an accessible bathroom already, for after his surgery. My whole house is accessible! Ramps for wheelchairs and all one level. And! It’s a good neighborhood.”
“You got an ulterior motive?” Casey asked, thankfully cutting him off.
Robby hesitated. Her frown hardened and the words spilled out of him, “We clicked. He’s a good kid. I—I wanna adopt him.”

Summary
“People aren’t either wicked or noble. They’re like chef’s salads, with good things and bad things chopped and mixed together.”
Frank learns early how little it takes to shift the course of things, how easily a life can bend around pain, around silence, around the wrong kind of survival.
Months later, Dr. Robby meets a boy he almost remembers, and can’t quite place why he doesn’t sit right.

Summary
“You just want a man that’s older than you to pick you up by your tiny little twink waist.” Trinity’s words were faltering and her consciousness was obviously drifting towards sleep again. So Dennis added the last part more to himself than to anyone else before closing his own eyes.
“Definitely. It’s all I think about."
He definitely thought about it.
Trinity didn’t need to know that.
_
Or: Dennis meets Pope at a party. They keep meeting. They bond over kitchen sponges, lamps and family trauma.
