Hanbin's investigation into hybrid thief Zhang Hao spirals into fixation and obsession. Teeth grazed the side of his throat, and he couldn’t help but freeze, his heart stuttering. Hanbin chuckled, and his hot breath hitting Hao’s wet skin made him shiver.
“You know,” Hanbin said conversationally, “you're not very good at pretending that I'm not a vampire.”
Hao’s blood ran cold.

“Ah—” Hanbin’s ears were slowly and steadily turning red again. “Thanks, um, Zhang Hao. And it goes both ways, you know. I’ll be good for you, too.”
Zhang Hao had never heard anyone say that before. That they would give to him what he gave them. With his previous owner, who had generally been pleasant, there was always the unspoken default undergirding their dynamic: while she wasn’t a traditional owner, and she cared for him and he for her, they would never be equals.
Maybe, with Hanbin, they could be.Zhang Hao is a sumxu, a supposedly extinct Chinese cat hybrid, who’s always felt that his life—lonely and sheltered sure—was a decent one, even if he is the last of his kind to still exist. When Hanbin adopts him from the shelter where he’s been dumped, Zhang Hao dares to want for the first time: it changes everything.
or: hybrid!hao and human!hanbin fall in love and navigate differences that may very well tear them apart; or maybe, just maybe, it turns out they aren't so insurmountable after all
