“You need it more than I do,” he chuckles. “I’m cold-blooded.”
Her eyes fall back closed and she nestles closer to Wolfgang, so that they’re both touching the warm bottles between them. “You’re really not, you know.”

Summary
Their hands begin exploring, tentative at first but quickly gaining in confidence as they roam over each other's bodies the way they have only once before, and it’s sexual, to be sure, but it’s also so much more; it's reverent, it's knowing, it’s loving - it's these are your dips and your these are your edges; this is where neither of us ends and we both begin.

Summary
Despite the agitation back at the station, they both feel their heartbeats slow gradually to a more normal pace, and they sense each other relaxing further into their seats with each kilometer they put behind them as the cab weaves its way through the city streets.
Neither of them says a word for the entire ride. There’s no need. They hold hands over the empty seat between them, and that, for now, is comfort enough. The street lights take turns illuminating the inside of the cab, sending their profiles into and out of stark contrast as they move past them, lending a dream-like quality to the moment. They take this time, these first moments in the city that will be their new home, to take it in, to slowly and quietly begin to mentally settle into their new lives.
Kala and Wolfie arrive at their new home.

Summary
“I love used books,” she proffers, eager to be a normal person. “I love when books have a story.”
“Well, I’d say if a book doesn’t have a story, it’s a pretty sad excuse for a book.”
Mel can’t help herself—she snorts. “I didn’t realize you owned the shop,” Mel says quickly, embarrassed. “That must be nice—”
“Yeah, it is,” Frank answers distractedly. “I’m sorry, I’m pretty sure I just saw two time Emmy award winning actress Mel King snort at a joke I made.”
So he really did know her, then, wow.
“Well I’m not sure anyone will believe you,” she jokes lightly.
“Yeah,” Frank breathes, his eyes roving over her face in a stunned sort of awe. “I don’t think anyone will.”

Summary
Some nights were, naturally, worse than others.
Nights where Frank laid in bed for so long, staring at the ceiling, that it made his heart start to race with anxiety and his back ache and ache and ache no matter how he positioned himself. Nights where his thoughts spiraled out into worst-case-scenarios that seemed so vivid and inevitable that he would have to get up and go to the bathroom, just to turn the light on and look at himself in the mirror to remember what was actually real.
Those were the nights when he wanted the pills again the most: alone in his guest bedroom, trying to wring sleep out of his body like the last few drops of water out of a dirty dishcloth.
He tried not to call Mel on nights like that. He did not always succeed.

Summary
"So are you a Survivor superfan?" He asks—be normal Frank, be normal—walking toward some rocks at the far end of the beach.
"Huge," Mel says with a wide smile. "What about you?"
"Me, not really," Frank admits. "I watched a few seasons here and there," —one season, if he's honest— "and I auditioned just for fun," —he hadn't even known that Theo had sent in that stupid video— "and now here I am."
"Here you are," Mel echoes and Frank finds himself a little lost in the melody of her voice. It's lower than maybe he would expect, but the flow of it is an easy rhythm, a pleasing melody.
Entrancing.
"Here we are." Finds it necessary to add on, and the smile that blooms on Mel's face tells him he's said the right thing.
Fuck.
Or, the Survivor AU.
