Summary
“I’m gonna say something, but you can’t get mad at me,” he says. Bobby is silent, but that’s not much different from how he’d usually react to such an opening from Buck, so he takes that as his go-head anyway. “I think this may be all my fault.”

Summary
The drywall in Buck’s new apartment was more fragile than he thought it would be.
His fist went through it easily, catching and scraping the skin of his hand with a pricking shock of pain that wasn’t nearly enough to ground him. There was a joke there, somewhere, about places not being built like they used to be, but instead, jaw clenched, he reeled back and switched direction, slamming the flat of his palm against his fridge hard enough to send a more satisfying ripple up his arm, jarring his shoulder. Gasping, he let himself tilt forward until his forehead pressed into the cool metal of his freezer door.
Breathe, he tried to tell himself. Get a fucking grip, Buckley. But the voice sounded like his father’s, and his mind skittered around it.or, in seperate ways, Buck and Eddie don't react well to the realization

Summary
“Good afternoon,” Buck says, projecting what he hopes to be effortless sincerity. “I’m here from the Neighborhood Financial Wellness Program. What’s your name?”
She smiles, opening the door a little more. “Isabel Diaz.”
“Wonderful! It’s so nice to meet you, Isabel. My name is—”
This is the fatal moment he realizes he did not come up with a name prior to knocking. The second where his brain, empty as a hollowed gourd, reaches into the void for a convincing, respectable name.
What emerges, thankfully, is actually pretty respectable. And convincing. One may even say strategic.
“My name is Edmundo,” he says.

Summary
“This your first commercial flight or something?”
“With you, yeah.” Buck’s grin widens, playful now, the earlier panic tucked safely away. “What, no commemorative gift?”
Eddie glances down at their joined hands—Buck’s fingers still loosely tangled with his, thumb still stroking the skin there. “Permanent custody of my hand ain’t cutting it for you?”
Or, Buck gets over his fear of flying, and joins the Mile High Club. Exactly in that order.

Summary
“I don’t know what you want from me anymore,” Eddie says through the door, his voice worn thin at the edges. There’s a soft thud against the wood, and Buck doesn’t need to see it to know – Eddie’s forehead resting there. “Talk to me.”
“There’s nothing to say,” Buck replies. The words come out flat.
“How about when you said you don’t need me?”
Buck exhales, slow and heavy.
Because that’s it. The lie he wants to believe because believing it would make everything hurt less. The one that keeps failing him – failed him today, almost got him killed, almost pulled him down into the pit because for one terrifying moment he was sure Eddie was gone.
One bad call, one broken dam, and suddenly Buck and Eddie aren't pretending anymore.
