“Darling-” Joyce’s voice breaks, and she clears her throat and begins again. “Will, you throw yourself into every single part of life and it makes me so happy. The love that you have, it’s not going anywhere. You don’t have to be ashamed of it, that's all I can ask for. Even through the hurt and the pain that comes from loving someone, I just want you to remember to not forget why you love them, and why you fell in love in the first place.”
Will’s face is still damp and tears still threaten to fall and yet, his mom’s words wash over him like the first drop of rain after a long summer’s day.

She fills a glass up once with water, downs it then repeats, spinning to face the lounge as she nurses the second, only to be met with the sight of Peter Parker sat on her couch, blinking owlishly in the dark.
