Summary
There are no words to explain away the betrayal he's inflicted so the Narrator says nothing.
Stanley shoves him into the wall again and then snatches the clock from his hand. Then he walks away.
The Narrator says nothing.

Summary
So he’s home alone with a cat and a turtle, trying to be at least a smidge helpful from home by filling in paperwork when the doorbell rings. And he’s the New Trevor Hills; smarter and more world weary and attending therapy once a week, but he’s also the Old Trevor Hills, the one who grew up in a literal bubble where the weather was always sunny and the worst neighborhood crimes could be waved away as kids playing harmless pranks, and he opens the front door without a second thought.
(Damn his Arcadia habits.)

Summary
The Narrator, in a fit of impulsivity which proves the theory that stupidity is contagious, stands on his branch, jumps onto the root without even testing if it's capable of holding his weight, and starts climbing.
"Okay then!" chuckles Stanley before he, too, performs the idiotic action of jumping onto the root without checking if it can hold his weight, and starts climbing.
Dear lord, how have they survived so far?

Summary
You recognized this man, in the way you recognized any outlandish stranger you saw once on the subway. This seven-foot tall man who’d been in the hot zone of a villain attack last week who had refused any rescue until you had to drop your invisibility, scaring the shit out of him enough that he’d stopped protesting and went along with you semi-willingly—you still had to tug him with your branches—back behind the barrier.
So yes, you recognized this man, but he should not have recognized you. Not enough to corner you miles away from the last place you saw him while on patrol, at least. You were an underground hero for a reason.
“Oh god,” you said as realization strikes you from above, your nose scrunching behind your kabuki-inspired mask. “You’re not one of those stalker fans, are you?”

Summary
His head pokes into the closet, ink stained across the bottom of his palm and one side of his cheek. “Do you even need glasses?”
“No,” answers the Narrator honestly, “but I’ve worn them for so long that I suppose I’ve gotten used to them. Plus,” he says tugging at the green coat he'd decided to wear today, shoulders back, head held high, “I think they make me look spiffy.”
In retrospect, the Narrator could understand how Stanley could find his statement funny but maintains that Stanley’s choking-on-his-spit laughter was over the top and unnecessary.

Summary
You find yourself in need of an old CRT, and after a full day of driving around to every thrift store in town, you manage to find one. It's old and dirty, but it'll work.
Imagine your surprise when, shortly after cleaning it up, it comes to life and you now have giant TV-headed man crouched in your apartment. The whole situation is far more shocking to you than it is to him. This is neither the Dark World nor the Light World, but either way, Tenna wants nothing more than to be your TV, and you find it difficult to say no to the humble request.
It's certainly better than trying to explain the REAL reason you'd bought him...

"You just! Don't! LISTEN!"
Pomni's words were playing though Caine's mind in an agonizing loop. In any other circumstances, he'd be able to erase that thought. Loan then to Bubble permanently, keep going on as intended.
But this was not his Bubble.
This was not his circus.
Yet, these were his humans.
They didn't remember him. They did not know he was an ai. They had just come back from the Candy Canyon Kingdom. Why was this happening?
"You just! Don't! LISTEN!"
He could win their favor. He could win their love, and affection. He had to.
He had nothing left but this second chance.
And, ideally, he'd do it WITHOUT making himself a horrible, cruel monster that no one loved in the process.
"You just! Don't! LISTEN!"
... Fine.
If listening was what it took...
Then Caine would listen.
He would be the best at it.

Summary
Pomni wasn’t really sure what to expect when she threw her hat in the ring for Operation: RETRIEVE CAINE. All she knew was that someone had to do it, and she sure as fuck didn’t think any of the others would do it.
The entire thing hinged on the hope that his file still existed somewhere in the bin since for some reason, Kinger couldn’t just find the file directly from their new computer. Some explanation about indexes and file corruption that went over her head- but because of this, someone needed to be deleted and dropped into the bin to interact with him and hopefully get a file reference to him, so that hopefully, when they’re brought back, he (or at least something Caine-adjacent) gets dragged back as well.
Hopefully.
God, this is beyond fucked.
---
In a last-ditch attempt to stop the circus from falling apart, Pomni gets sent into the bin to retrieve Caine, which, if everything went well, should restore functionality to the Circus. It should be fine, probably- it’ll be just like some convoluted high stakes adventure! Easy-peasy lemon-squeezy.It’s too bad computers don’t really work like that.
