Summary
She has run into the arms of Builder’s League United - arms to lift her up and away from the baying hounds snapping at her ankles of the police and her mother and the atrocities she has committed and cannot entirely remember. But it is no benevolent rescue. The team is an assembly of outcasts but she, Constance, is the most misfit of all, blind and bleating in this new world of color and sound and shattered memory. They do not like her, nor she them.
But slowly, they begin to work together and slowly, Constance finds a friendship with the amiable Texan who seems determined to show her shelter. She is petrified of trusting him, of trusting anyone, of closing her hungry jaws and ceasing to froth - but here, there is plenty of food, and here, there is an embrace within which she is always welcome.
