He has them often. He thinks it might be kind of psychopathic if he didn’t, if he wasn’t a little bit haunted by open chest wounds, the inexorable pumping of blood over his hands, the taste of mud. Buck going limp in his harness on the ladder. Buck, crumpled and delirious under the engine. Buck’s mouth full of blood.
What he means to say is god, God, would it really be so hard for Buck to think before he jumped into a harness, over a cliff, into a collapsing basement? Think of Christopher, think of everything he has to lose? Everything he’d be leaving behind, putting on the table when he pulls that trigger?

Two patients presenting to the emergency room, 23M and 20M. No mission reported. 23M, identified as Anthoni Prince, presenting with nausea, dry heaving, blurry vision, and severe bradycardia. Patient drifting in and out of consciousness, scoring a 7 on the Glasgow Coma Scale. Prior to admission, patient had inhaled an unknown toxin in an unknown amount in the Toxicology Labs.
20M identified as Jackson Crawford, presenting with a dislocated shoulder, both elbows sprained, shortness of breath, nausea, mild bradycardia. Shoulder set back into place and secured in a sling in-clinic. Toxicology panel run by on-call phlebotomist on both patients.

Lost in the rhythm of her own steps, she stumbles into a small clearing, and sees a grove of apple trees, leaves rustling gently in the breeze. Each fruit gives off a healthy gloss, reflecting the sunlight. Drawing closer, the fluffy grass brushes against Aaravi’s ankles. Before she really knows it, she’s reaching out to grab a juicy apple hanging temptingly low on a branch of the nearest tree.
With barely any struggle, it comes off the branch and into her hand, and she puts it in the basket.
A bright voice startles her out of her reverie. “And who exactly are you, to be in my clearing, taking my apples without my leave?”
