But then the moment Sophia had laid eyes on him, in his eight year old painting top and his pizza stained cut off shorts, she’d got this look in her eye, this predatory little glint like when she was young and trying to steal Eddie’s french fries, or in the plotting stages of a particularly stupid prank.

Summary
Eddie Diaz was presumed dead, K.I.A., while serving his country. His widower, Shannon, was left behind to deal with his overbearing parents trying to take their grandson away from her. That is until a phone call from her mother had her moving her and Christopher to L.A. Then on school field trip to a local fire station, Shannon and Christopher meet this enthusiastic, young fire fighter who refused to let Christopher miss out on all the fun because of his CP. Evan 'Buck' Buckley quickly becomes a large part of Shannon's and Chris' lives. Until one faithful night when tragedy strikes the Diaz family again. Now it's just Buck and Christopher against the world, or rather the Diaz parents, until a ghost comes back from the dead and knocks on their door.

“Who the fuck is Lucía?” Eddie asks as soon as he picks up Buck’s FaceTime. Buck winces slightly at his tone. Okay, maybe he deserved that.
“Lucía is a newborn ba-” Buck starts before Eddie cuts him off.
“I’m sorry, a newborn? What’s happening here Buck? Why is Theo asking me if a newborn can come live with you? Oh God. Did you knock someone up?” Eddie groans as words tumble out of his mouth.
OR
Buck is asked to foster a newborn baby girl. Cue Buddie co-parenting, for a third time.

“Buck?” he said softer now, approaching him again and reaching his hands out as if he were approaching a cornered animal. “What happened?” he asked as one of his hands cupped the side of Buck’s face, a thumb swiping away the blood.
Buck seemed to curl in on himself then, his entire body recoiling and his face taking on a look of shame.
“I’m fine,” he said, voice cracking.
“You’re not,” Eddie countered, removing his hand just because he couldn’t stand the look in Buck’s eyes in that moment. “Talk to me.”
“It’s nothing,” he said too quickly, then pushed past him and headed toward the showers.
“Buck, it’s not nothing,” Eddie said, following behind him at what he considered to be a safe distance. “It’s two in the morning and it’s your day off. You show up here looking like someone just killed your puppy and sucker-punched you. Will you please talk to me?”
“Will you just let me take a shower?” Buck asked, stopping in place for a moment. “Please.”
