And he sees red, the glass groaning in his grip. Passes the glass to a grinning Olesya and storms across the room, stepping in between Eva and the diplomat, a furious, “Hey, man, leave her alone.”
“But she-”
“You’re talking to me now, buddy,” he says, squaring his shoulders. He’s taller than this guy anyway. “So pick on someone your own size.”

She breathes out hard, straightens up and says, “Yes. I’m fine. Now, Doctor Grace-”
“Director, that was a contraction,” Yao says sternly, and Ryland feels his stomach flip and land somewhere around his ankles, nervous nausea lurching up into his throat. “Are you in labour?”
