Summary
[...] Shane opened his gift bag and smiled when he saw the expected bear, almost identical to the one the Metro’s sold except for the black and gold jersey and Rozanov’s name and number. “God. It even has your facial expression.” He pulled it out and held it up and for the life of him he couldn’t think of anything suitably acerbic to say. He wanted this bear. He wanted to keep it on his bed. He was sentimental about this bear.
Shane looked up, truly expecting to be on the receiving end of the patented Rozanov shit-eating grin. What he got instead was something much similar to his earlier expression. Big, woeful rounded eyes. Only genuine this time. “Hey? What’s wrong?”
“You got me a present.”
“I got you a present last year.”
Ilya clutched the Hollander bear to his chest and then his face crumpled. “My father is dying.”

Summary
Sitting in the tiny closet, surrounded by the smell of leather and neoprene, she’s had a lot of time to reflect on her choices, specifically the ones that led her to engage in breaking and entering into Shane Hollander’s cottage while her future husband makes dinner with Shane Hollander’s parents.
It wasn’t like she set out to break the law. She didn’t choose to fall in love, it just sort of happened, a twist of cosmic luck like the Big Bang or when the vending machine gives you two candy bars instead of one.
Or: Ilya Rozanov has a stalker.
