    “Ask me,” Tim says breathlessly before he presses another kiss to Jason’s lips. His grip on Jason’s shirt tightens and he pushes forward, backing Jason up against the counter. He looks up at him desperately, so much heat in his gaze, and then nips at Jason’s jaw.

    “Ask me, Jason,” he repeats, and Jason groans as he drags curled fingers down Tim’s back, scratching at him through his shirt.

    Jason sat back in his chair, arms crossed against his chest, eyes closed.

    He was waiting.

    It seemed like so much of his life had been spent waiting. Waiting for Willis to get drunk enough that yelling wasn't adequate. Waiting for him to get out of prison so that they could afford heat. Waiting for his mom to feel better. Waiting for the right opportunity to steal his next meal. Waiting for the traffickers to sell him to his next dom.

    There was a big chunk in the middle there where he was waiting to die.

    The real question was: what was he supposed to do now that he could live?

    Tim Drake never actually wanted to become part of the Robin-Batman-vigilante outfit. No, really. But the last Robin up and died, and now Batman is going crazy, and no one else is doing anything about it, so...Tim decides to become Robin. He might as well, right? At the very least it'll give him something to do while his parents are gone.

    Still, Tim's not taking up the mantle until he can put a couple of things in order. Step one? Making sure the Joker can't get it into his head to kill another Robin. Not ever again. (Good thing Tim's not the one with a 'no killing' rule.)

    And then after that? Well, after that it's only just a matter of keeping Batman from learning Tim's identity and subsequently chasing him off. Not until Bruce can get back on his feet and pick a new Robin, a real one this time. Easy-peasy.

    Sort of.
