    Aventurine makes it out of the abyss - and into a different world. Things are different here - simpler. There are no Aeons, no intergalactic factions and corporations, no Paths and Blessings. He is not naïve enough to assume that there is no cruelty and discrimination here - for there always is - but for the most part, everything is peaceful.

    Here, Aventurine's priorities are getting people's coffee orders right. Fairly straight forward, if you ask him.

    Except for the bit where he is surrounded by too many familiar faces, and they remind him of a place he can no longer return to. That's okay. People come and go, and so will they.

     

    Except for the bit where they come and go and come back.

     

    AKA. Aventurine gets dropped into a coffee-shop AU with all the memories from before. He's handling things until he's not handling things. That's okay, because he still has friends (and Dr Ratio) in this world. He just doesn't know it yet.

    Aventurine wants to laugh as he goes slack against Ratio’s side, but all that comes out is a pained wheeze.

    A bullet, really?

    There’s poetic justice in one finally managing to reach him only when it was meant for someone else.
    –
    When Aventurine finally manages to outrun his luck, it’s not the result of a grand scheme or one of his high-stake gambles. Instead, on what should have been a routine mission, he gets shot.

    Ratio is there to pick up the pieces.

    Whatever Ratio had drunk, it must have been strong for him to be acting like this. “Yeah, Doc, it’s time you go to sleep-”

    “I love you.”

    Aventurine’s head whipped back into place to face Ratio. Those words couldn’t be real. Not coming out of Ratio’s mouth, and not directed towards Aventurine. He needed confirmation. He needed confirmation that this was real, he wasn’t dreaming, he wasn’t insane, he was here, he was real and that actually happened. Because not even in his wildest dreams would something as impossible as this occur. Desperately, Aventurine seized Ratio’s arms which were loosening around him as he looked to him for validation.

    Aventurine stared at him in horror.

    Ratio was passed out.

    A drunk Ratio admits he loves Aventurine. Only Aventurine remembers the confession by the next morning.
