“I might have an opportunity for you.”

    “Pass.”

“Would you just— you heard of MJ Watson?”

“One of the biggest movie stars in the world right now? I don’t live under a rock.” Peter says. “What about her?”

“Rumor has it she’s looking for personal security detail,” Tony says. “And a little birdy told me you two went to high school together.”

“Thank you, really. But no, thank you.”

The last thing Peter Parker needs is to be thinking about MJ Watson. Not again. Not now.

Not when he has Wilson Fisk on his mind.

“Can I ask something about your—?” He chokes on the word.

    “You can ask.”

    “Does he treat you well?”

She blinks at him in surprise briefly before her face softens, her lashes fluttering as she nods. “He does,” she breathes. “He really does.”

Peter nods. It’s interesting, he’d thought it would hurt to hear that, but it doesn’t. Instead he feels a sense of…peace, almost. The pain still lingers beneath it, but there’s relief in knowing she’s adored. Even if it can’t be by him anymore. “Good. Good, I’m…I’m glad. You deserve—”

    "And what about you?”

    Peter frowns. “What…what about me?”

MJ shrugs. “Did they…treat you well?”

    “Who?”

“The person whose perfume you’re wearing tonight.”

Oh, he’s gonna throw up. “No, what? No,” he laughs nervously. “No, this…” he gestures vaguely towards himself, “this is just something I’m trying out.”

MJ smirks as she ascends the steps to her apartment. “Okay, tiger.”

Tiger, he mouths as she disappears inside. That’s new. A smile twitches at his lips.

    He thinks he likes it.

    —

In which Peter is definitely not waiting.

    But he is willing.

Michelle Jones and Ned Leeds. It's always been just the two of them against the world, from their days at Midtown Tech to MIT. Now, they're back in Queens, ready to see what the city that raised them has in store, united in their shared belief that whatever it is that will complete them, it can only be found here in New York.

And on an unrelated note, Ned won't shut up about this awesome guy Peter Parker who just moved in across the hall.

    **

Post-No Way Home. I started writing this before I saw Brand New Day, but it is loosely informed by what we saw of Peter and MJ in the trailers. Imagine the idea of Brand New Day with a lot less plot and a lot more neighborly yearning.

“MJ,” Peter says quietly. “What are you doing here?”

MJ blinks rapidly for a moment, then finally meets his gaze again. She gives a what-do-you-do sort of shrug, shoulders tight up near her ears. “Got in trouble in a bad part of town,” she says, clearing her throat when her voice breaks slightly. “You’re the only guys I know dumb enough to live in the bad part of town.”

    Summary

Since the moment she started college, she’s had this insane tug towards Stark Industries. It should have repulsed her: government defense contractor with blood all over its shiny logo. And yet. She couldn’t stop thinking about it. She needed to work at Stark, needed to be there, needed something from the last baby of Iron-Man. Something had been hidden there for her. It was why she switched her major, the reason she had spent every waking minute focused on wing foil design, torsion, metal strengths, speaking the part and acting the part until she got the coveted Stark internship in her senior year. When she got the email she’d read it out loud: Stark internship, feeling the odd urge to snicker. There he goes again for his internship.

    It’s been him all along.

    MJ's got a spider problem.
