He only gets out when his lips are purple and his teeth click together in a morbid staccato, leaving the pink water to swirl down the drain, tinting the white porcelain with its hue. When he looks in the mirror, he notes with a vacant, empty surprise that even despite the travesty that is his battle wounds, he looks somewhat cleansed. Somewhat like before, despite the feeling of blood still rising in his throat.

Summary
When he curls up on the brown couch with a book in hand, plucked from the same bookshelf he had retrieved the vinyl from, he absently thinks to himself how nice this is. It’s a much sweeter happiness than the drug that had been running through his veins what feels like forever ago, honey compared to blackstrap molasses. John Sebastian’s voice croons out a golden melody that almost matches the paint on the walls, and the music swirls around him as soft as a warm breeze, gentle and slow. It’s calm; it’s peaceful. Sanctuary.
And Steve is fine.

“Hey,” Harry says, “you know you can tell me about it, right?”
Tom frowns. “Um...”
“I mean, the pit. You spent two days alone down there. I have a hard time believing nothing happened.”
Tom feels a surge of fear rise from some miserable corner in the back of his head. “Harry, if I thought there was anything worth saying I would’ve said it already.”
“Okay,” says Harry, tight, “but I just -”
“Really, nothing happened,” Tom insists, grateful for the fact that Harry can’t see his face. “I got a few scrapes, wandered around aimlessly, and didn’t eat. Thrilling stuff.”
He’s lying out his ass, blatantly and irreparably. He knows it, and it feels bad, but if he told the truth? Now, Harry, I did kill a man, but don’t be mad, he deserved it, I promise - he can’t stand the idea of driving Harry away from his side tonight.
