(Completely self indulgent, but thought I'd share!)
“For fear dwells within the water,” a voice said, shockingly close to his shoulder, “Ever churning through the veins.”
Shen Qingqiu didn’t jump, but it was a close thing. If he hadn’t recognized the voice despite his surprise, he would have already struck out blindly and crippled the man. Instead, he twisted in his seat, glaring over his shoulder at the young man reading the calligraphy papers over his shoulder.
The young man tilted his head, his ponytail draping over his shoulder as he gave Shen Qingqiu a lopsided grin.
“Shidi.” Shen Qingqiu greeted with an edge in his voice.
The young man took a step backwards and gave him a salute, not bothering to dispel the self-satisfied grin on his face. “Shen-shixiong, it’s been a while.”
