Admittedly, in recent weeks, Will has started to lose track of which direction the tug is coming from. He figures it’s okay – as long as they stay the course, what happens in the meantime shouldn’t matter much. Ends and means and all that. There is a precarious knife-edge he’s been teetering on, though; waking up frantic and sweating and wanting in the dead of night. Sometimes he’s sure that Hannibal can smell it on him.
When he finally meets Hannibal’s eyes, it is the Ripper staring back at him.

Summary
Hannibal doesn’t touch Will’s scars. He’ll touch the scars other people gave him–the old stab wound from Louisiana, the closed up bullet hole in his shoulder, the freshly healed cheek wound from Dolarhyde—but he won’t touch anything important, won’t touch the wounds he gave Will with his own hands, teary-eyed and jaw clenched both times. Will isn’t sure if it’s because they make Hannibal feel the closest thing to regret he can feel, or if he just doesn’t want to remind Will what he did.
He suspects it’s the latter. Suspects it when Hannibal brushes a curl back from his forehead and his eyes linger a second too long, suspects it when he cradles Will’s head in his hand and smooths his thumb down the tissue bisecting his cheek, but he never suspects it more than when they’re having sex and Hannibal’s hand brushes past his stomach on the way to his waist and spasms, every time.
or: had the thought “yeah mizumono was awful but the problem is that in any universe where it didn’t happen will wouldn’t have a scar that hannibal could press down on when he’s–*gunshots*” and then this happened

(Or the avengers think Matt is dating Frank, that Frank and Daredevil are exes, that Matt Murdock has far too many black eyes for it to be an accident and the two vigilantes are two idiots who don’t realise they’re in love even when everyone else does.)
