“Language, Mr. Crouch.”
For a brief moment, Evan considered saying exactly what came to his mind, things that would shut Crouch up on the spot, but he dismissed it just as quickly. This wasn’t the time. And definitely not the audience.
“Fine,” he said smoothly, ignoring the irritation in his chest. “If that’s what you think is best, sir, I’ll… manage.”
“Don’t do me any favours, Rosier.” Barty snorted.
“Trust me, Crouch. I’m not exactly thrilled about the arrangement either.”

After one of Barty’s pranks, Slughorn gave him an unexpected detention, putting him under Evan’s prefect watch, much to their mutual irritation.

“Barty…” Evan whispered.
“I’m getting you down, baby,” Barty’s tone leaving no room for doubt. “I don’t care what I have to do for that. I won’t let anything happen to you.”
A darker thought kept pressing in on Evan anyway, he’d already been in the air far longer than planned, and he couldn’t stop wondering how long a plane could keep circling before fuel became a real question.

“Rosie…”
A shiver ran down Evan’s spine instantly. He pressed his face into the pillow, hoping the darkness would hide the flush he could feel rising.
“You can’t just… smile like that,” Barty mumbled, absolutely, unquestionably not awake.
Evan swallowed audibly. It was just the echo of the day, his brain insisted. People dreamt about things they saw before bed. Evan had been right there, probably, smiling at something stupid Barty said. This was simply Barty’s mind replaying it.
___When a Gryffindor prank shuffles the Slytherin dorms into a month-long roommate rotation, Evan ends up spending a week with his best friend Barty, who won’t stop sleep-talking love confessions about him. Suddenly Evan has to face the feelings he’s been avoiding for years.

___Every morning, Barty buys a coffee he doesn’t even need, because Evan is behind the counter. Every night, Evan takes the stage in a club Barty was never meant to see.

It was at this point Regulus started to wonder if he was being pranked. Barty had started in on the habit since he’d become friends with Sirius, and it seemed like just the thing he and Evan would do, especially if he’d heard Regulus had won quite the sum after their actions last night. “Barty…” he said slowly, “did you and Evan not fuck last night?”
The taller man shrugged. “Yes. So?”
“So,” Regulus said, blinking, “that’s…very gay.”
“Not if your balls don’t touch,” Barty replied, so seriously that Regulus had to question his own sanity.
