Summary
“Do you feel yourself unwanted here?” said Melian, with what seemed to be genuine dismay. “I have heard only delight at your having chosen to stay.”
“Unwanted may be too strong. But uninvited is also hard. Unknown. Misunderstood. And I would have more delight if Eärendil could stay too. He did not choose knowing he would have to leave.”
“The recipients of great doom are rarely its architects,” said Melian. “None of us freely chooses our fate.”
“Lúthien did,” said Elwing.

Bookmarker's Notes
No one came for them.
No Valar. No Maiar.
These who were stolen long before Orome found them.
No one.
(except perhaps some of their own who died, or were kept)
Not even Eru.
When an evil of the world can *quite literally observe* the maker of it abandon the children he made & placed into it - abandon them to torments of the damned at the wills & hands of said evil
Then it's not mere 'not even', it is 'especially'.
And most damningly so.
