During the final song of what was surely the worst Christmas special to ever grace the airwaves, Robert is struck by a realisation that has nothing to do with getting Chris to call him Dad (again).

Summary
The Spirit of Christmas made a bit of a cock-up with the whole "Ebenezer Blackadder becoming evil" thing, but thanks to the boss being not specific enough with his command to fix that mess, he might be able to get out of it. All he needs to do is to "turn the heart of Blackadder". Surely it can't be that difficult?
And if it does turn out to be that difficult, then perhaps he can get someone else to do it for him, like a different captain who might be a bit more cooperative than that git Edmund Blackadder...

Summary
"Oh. Well, that's a bit of a shame, because in order to raise morale, the general staff has been tasked with finding soldiers their soulmates. Give them something to fight for and stop their belly aching about all the mud and bullets. Really, I think we should just shoot the worst whingers, that would get them to buck up, but orders are orders. So, I need a chap to help me run a match-making service for the lonely hearts of your regiment, but it sounds like that wouldn't be your sort of thing at all. There would be a lot of paperwork," Blackadder scoffed, "done forty miles behind the line in a rather nice Château. If it's a success, they might even send the man to London to start a central bureau there. Oh, well! Can't be helped."
"As I was about to say, sir, that would be exactly what the man you wouldn't want to do the job would say. I, of course, believe in soulmates, fairies, and that God is rooting for us to win the war," Blackadder lied quickly. He would believe in any old rubbish if it meant getting forty miles behind the lines.

Summary
Making himself Edmund III turns out, to Blackadder's great displeasure, to not be the five-minute job it should be. Who thought playing around in the past would get so complicated? Maybe, if he could find someone who was tediously detail-oriented, somewhat intelligent, and most importantly of all, willing to do anything for him without causing a huge mess in the process, to help him with his cunning plan.
If only, once he'd realised that mysterious someone was Darling, there hadn't been the cock-up of them crash-landing in 1917, accidentally picking up the Wrong Darling in his rush to avoid dying in the most embarrassing way a Blackadder ever did (bravely, heroically, and pointlessly) and leaving the Right Darling behind.
And if only the Wrong Darling wasn't refusing point-blank to go back...

Summary
I can run through them with you tonight, he added before he could stop himself. The bubble vanished. Stupid, Chris thought to himself. He was being incredibly stupid, it could wait. Just because he knew that Robert found Mother's Day difficult, didn't mean that he was looking for the first excuse he could find to get away. Chris would be the last excuse he would ever want to use. It was already over five minutes since he'd left the flat, it was freezing, he should go inside before he froze to death and forget this whole ridiculous business.
Your place at seven.

Summary
When Edmund Blackadder, bloodied from shrapnel and ears ringing from the shelling, stumbled over Captain Darling's body caught in a tangle of barbed wire, he did not, despite many assurances towards it over the years, laugh, clap, and dance.
Instead, Blackadder took in the dark-wet definitely-not-mud stain spread all over Darling's uniformed chest, the pistol lax in his grip, his unseeing eyes turned up towards the overcast sky, and said, "oh, bloody buggering hell.""Quite," agreed Darling, squinting down at his own corpse; and, despite the unfortunate circumstances, took great pleasure in hearing Blackadder scream like a little girl.
