''I know everyone says he's a fool,'' said Brenna. ''But he's sweet. And I fancy he'd be a nice kisser.''
''Oh, I'm sure he's a fine kisser.'' Rosie's smile was wicked. ''But you'd need an awful lot of luck to try and steal a kiss from that one. He only has eyes for the king.''

The ladies cheered as Merlin gathered the butterflies together, then made them fly in some sort of pattern that was meant to be impressive. Arthur grimaced, but he couldn't take his eyes off Merlin.
The idiot was enjoying this, but why shouldn't he? It was the most attention he had ever received in his life. Ever since he was free to practice magic openly, the ladies at court and the girls of the city had given him their admiration, even going as far as flirting with him sometimes. It was more than Arthur could stand, but what was he supposed to do? Admit that he was jealous of a bunch of girls?

Arthur finds out Merlin has magic. He also finds out how often Merlin risked his life for him and so, he does the only thing he can think of to protect him: banishment.
Hurt and angry, Merlin leaves and swears to not look back.
But, when two years pass and Morgana shows up at Merlin’s door, urging him to fill Gaius’ position as Court Physician, Merlin agrees. He really doesn’t know why, but Arthur is sure Merlin would do just about anything to get on his nerves.
Unprepared for the shock of seeing Merlin back in the castle, Arthur is forced to speed along his plans to lift the ban on magic. But between stubborn councilors, a mysterious plague, a still angry Merlin, and Morgana being Morgana, Arthur is fairly certain he’ll lose his mind before the first year of his reign even ends.
